Apollo 15 Insurance Cover |

Apollo 15 Insurance Cover - reverse |

Letter of Authenticity |
|
This
Apollo 15 Insurance cover
was produced for the flight crew courtesy of the Manned Spacecraft
Center Stamp Club of Houston, TX. It's purpose was to provide
a measure of financial security for their families in the event they
did not return from the Moon. Due to the risky nature of this
grand adventure, insurance as we know it was not made available to
members of the astronaut core.
As you can see, this
beautifully produced event cover contains a color cachet of the
mission emblem and is cancelled at KSC on Apollo 15 launch day.
It is hand signed by the Apollo 15 flight crew of Al Worden, Dave
Scott and James Irwin. The reverse has also been hand signed,
"From my personal collection, Al Worden, Apollo 15, CMP".
Each cover will also
be accompanied by a letter of authenticity (see scan) hand signed by
Al Worden on his personal stationary. Insurance covers are
highly sought after and with such iron clad provenance, this cover
is a "must have" for any serious space memorabilia collection.
Please also note:
Discounting is available for qualified Dealers or Investors if
purchasing 5 or more insurance covers. We will be happy to
discuss this upon request but please, serious inquires only.

FLOWN to the Moon Navigational Star
Chart

 |
This star chart was
flight utilized by Command Module Pilot, Al Worden during his voyage to
the Moon. This chart of the Northern Hemisphere measures a
substantial 9" x 9" and was produced to fold in half for easy storage.
Star Charts have become quite sought by serious collectors and those
that are actually used in flight, specifically FLOWN to the Moon are the
most desirable of all.
This artifact will be accompanied by an Al Worden hand signed letter of
authenticity attesting to it's history and that it was flown to the Moon
aboard Apollo 15. With such rock solid provenance, it just doesn't
get any better than this...

Flown from the Earth to the Moon on Apollo 15
- 11.5" x 7.5" American Flag
from the personal collection of Al Worden

 |
This is an oversized example of a flown to
the Moon American Flag. Flags of this size are as you can imagine,
rare and more difficult
to come by. It is in pristine condition having never been
displayed or mounted. This beautiful example was flown onboard the Command
Module Endeavour by the crew of Apollo 15.
Al Worden has hand signed this flag (in
ballpoint), "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15, July 26 - August 7, 1971,
Al Worden, Apollo 15, CMP" .
In addition, this
pristine
11.5" x 7.5" flag is accompanied by an Al Worden hand
signed letter of authenticity attesting to it's provenance as
a genuine flown to the moon artifact.

The images shown
above represent but a sampling of "Flown to the Moon flags"
being offered for sale by Astronaut Al Worden. These flags are
from Al's personal Apollo 15 artifact collection. Each flag
comes certified by Al as having been carried onboard the Command
Module Endeavour during it's historic lunar voyage (July 26 - August
7,
1971). Al will hand sign your flag (in ballpoint), "Flown to
the Moon on Apollo 15, Al Worden, Apollo 15, CMP" .
In addition, each flag is accompanied by an Al Worden hand
signed letter of authenticity attesting to it's provenance as
a genuine lunar orbital flown artifact.
There are a number of
countries available to select from but at only $2600 each, they they
are selling at a brisk pace, so don't
delay. These flags have been safely stored since their return
from the Moon and are for the most part are in untouched "as new"
condition. These are stand alone flags (not mounted or framed)
which means no need to worry about sun fading, glue residue, or tape
staining from years of display which is often an issue with Apollo
era flown flags. Each measures approximately 6" x 4".
Please inquire to check availability for the country of your choice.
This is a seldom seen opportunity to add a genuine Astronaut
certified, flown to the moon artifact to your space memorabilia
collection! Layaway plans will be considered for qualified
buyers.

'Reaching for the Stars' by Alan Bean
from the personal collection of Al Worden
 |
In his book, Apollo:
An Eyewitness Account, Alan Bean says of 'Reaching for the Stars',
"In one sense this is a painting of a universal astronaut,
symbolizing everyone who flew in Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab,
and Apollo-Soyuz. It also represents those who fly on space
shuttles and will fly on a space station and on future missions only
dreamed about at this time. The astronaut is an emissary of us
all, soaring away from our planet Earth....But in a broader view,
'Reaching for the Stars' symbolizes all of us who possess a
dedicated and adventurous spirit no matter what our interests or
age. Twenty
four astronauts have signed this print under their respective mission
logo though as you can imagine there are
still a few who could be added despite this being an
outstanding collection of autographs unto itself. The
Astronauts who have signed include: Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Scott
Carpenter, Wally Schirra, Gordon Cooper, Walt Cunningham, Rusty
Schweickart, James McDivitt, James Lovell, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean,
Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, Edgar Mitchell, Fred Haise, Charles Duke,
Alfred Worden, Paul Weitz, Owen Garriott, Jack Lousma, Bill Pogue,
Jerry Carr, Ed Gibson and Tom Stafford.
This fine art print is from the
personal collection of Astronaut Al Worden. It is one of the
highly sought after Artist's Proofs (#83/150). Artist Proofs
are prints hand selected by the artist for their own use and
generally presented to friends, family or other VIPs at their
discretion. The particular print was
presented to Al Worden by his friend,
Artist/Moonwalker Alan Bean.
It has never been displayed though is framed as received and
includes all original packaging.
In addition to coming with the publishers original paperwork and COA,
this artist's proof will be
accompanied by a hand signed letter of provenance from Astronaut Al
Worden.

4" A-B Mission Patch
This very limited
production A-B (4") Apollo 15 mission patch carries an embroidered "XV"
in gold just behind the mission symbol. The gold variant of this
mission's patch was produced in very small numbers and only for the use
of the prime crew themselves. It is in and of itself an
exceedingly rare patch and given the nature of this one, even more so.
This patch is accompanied by an Al Worden hand signed letter of
authenticity attesting to it's history and that it was flown to the Moon
aboard Apollo 15.

Star Chart used by Astronaut Al Worden to
train for his voyage to the Moon aboard Apollo 15
 |
The Star Chart offered here is of "Stars in the vicinity
of Orion" and was actually used by Al Worden to train for his
flight to the
Moon aboard Apollo 15 in August of 1971. Al has hand inscribed on
this star chart accordingly, " I used this chart in training, Al Worden,
Apollo 15. This Star Chart measures 9.5" x 7.25"
For those of you who
might be interested in learning more about collecting Star Charts, you
are invited to follow the link below to what I consider to be the
definitive article on the subject and best of all, it's written by a
collector, for collectors..
Collecting Star Charts
In the last few years
much attention has been focused on both flown and unflown Star Charts,
particularly from the Mercury - Apollo Programs. Consequently, as their
popularity has risen, their availability has decreased, making this an
excellent opportunity to own one that comes with provenance from the
Astronaut who actually used it, Al Worden. As provenance goes, it
just doesn't get any better than that.
This chart affixed to
it's stiff backing board has become slightly separated in the upper right
corner. This in no way detracts as the chart itself is in
excellent condition, though it could be easily reaffixed if desired, or
not. Either way however, this Apollo Star Chart will undoubtedly
make an important addition your space memorabilia collection.

Al Worden's "I Am NOT A Crook" Wristwatch
This novelty watch from
the All American Time Company is vintage 1971-and comes from Al Worden's
personal collection. It's shows it's wear and is not functioning
properly (starts and stops, has hairline crack in the crystal, and well
worm band, though band could be replaced and watch could probably be repaired to working order.
As a rarity these days, I recently found this very watch in new
condition that had sold for $200. This one is priced much lower in
it's present condition.
This "Tricky Dicky" watch
is such a cool item that I couldn't resist posting it here despite it
having no direct connection to space. For those of you watch
collectors out there, this is a great opportunity to pick up a rather
unique timepiece for your collection that comes directly from the
astronaut who wore it. Best of all, at only $115, it won't require
you to give up your first born in order to obtain it!! Comes

This beautifully detailed plaque was
presented to Al Worden by the officers and men of Apollo 15's Prime
Recovery Ship, USS Okinawa. The brass plate affixed reads, "Alfred

Al has inscribed this plaque on the
front (right side) and writes, "Presented
to me on Recovery aboard the USS Okinawa...Al Worden, Apollo 15".
This most impressive presentation is
most likely one of the first (if not THE first) awarded to the flight
crew post splashdown. In addition, this is arguably one of the
most visually impressive presentations Al has made available for sale
through Farthest Reaches and given it's strong association to the
mission itself, has special significance as a memento of Apollo 15's

flown in a Tornado F3 of No. 111(F) Squadron by Squadron Leader Andy
Green OBE RAF on an Air Defense sortie from RAF Leuchars and return.
During the flight, the Tornado was flown low level at Mach 1.02,
matching the precise speed of ThrustSSC in its unique record
breaking achievement.
This cover bears a
26p ThrustSSC postage paid stamp and is hand signed by both Richard
Noble and Andy Green both World Land Speed Record Holders
This cover is certified
on reverse as number 1043 of 5000. Please note that although
5000 were flown, only about 2000 were actually signed as shown here,
as the rest were contaminated by oil (believed to from a Tornado
aircraft) and consequently destroyed.
This
cover, JS(CC)31 (measuring 8 3/4" x 4 3/8") was produced by
the SSC Program to raise funds for the Royal Air Force Association
and Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Apollo 15 mission &
NASA meatball
emblems stained by lunar dust
 |
|
All five items contained
in this display were flown to the Moon by CMP, Al Worden on Apollo
15. With the exception of the Apollo 15 embroidered mission
patch, all were worn on Al's spacesuit. Following the mission
they were removed, framed and presented to him as was the custom, by
the Crew Systems Division. They include:
1. "Worden" beta
cloth nametag
2, U.S. Flag
3. NASA "meatball" logo
4. Beta cloth Apollo 15 emblem
It is also important to
note that these spacesuit labels are all
embedded to varying
degrees with lunar dust.
As Al explains in the accompanying LOA, the dust from Dave Scott and
Jim Irwin's spacesuits along with dust from the sample boxes caused
his own spacesuit to become discolored with lunar material.
What was simply a command module "housekeeping problem" in August of
1971 had suddenly become a collector's dream....
The fifth piece of this
presentation which also took made the trip to the Moon (though not
exposed to lunar dust) is quite special in it's own way. It is
perhaps the rarest of all Apollo 15 mission patches, in that the
special "XV" embroidered into this patch is produced in gold rather
than black or silver. This gold variety was only produced for
the astronauts exclusive use and in extremely limited number.
Finally there are two
plaques included within this presentation. The first is found
beneath the embroidered mission patch and reads, "This insignia was
carried aboard Apollo 15 during the first extended exploration of
the Moon July 26 - August 7, 1971"
The second plaque (made
of brass) beneath Al Worden's nametag reads, "Presented by Crew
Systems Division".
The mounting and framing
of this amazing 17" x 28" museum piece is first rate in every
respect. As mentioned, it is accompanied by a letter of
authenticity which is hand signed by Al Worden. For most, this
will undoubtedly represent the ultimate flown space collectable...a
spacesuit nametag....a NASA logo....a beta cloth mission emblem....a
US Flag.... and an exceedingly rare flown patch....all topped off
with a sprinkling of lunar material. It just doesn't get any
better than this!

A Unique Offering - An Astronaut's Pin and
Badge (Spacecraft Not Included)
from the personal collection of Al Worden
 |
The Astronaut's Pin was worn unofficially
by at least 29 Astronauts. The design shows a trio of trajectories
representing the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Missions. They merge
toward a bright shining star at the top, indicating the nature of space
travel. The elliptical design, symbolizes orbital flight.
This silver pin was worn by those who had not yet flown in space and was
replaced by a gold pin issued following the Astronaut's first mission.
As an aside, Alan Bean left his silver Astronaut's pin on the Moon in
1969. The Astronaut's pin
offered here is the actual pin owned and worn by Al Worden, Apollo 15,
CMP. Note: pin back is
missing.
The Senior Astronaut Badge offered here
is the actual badge owned and worn
by Apollo 15, CMP, Al Worden.
The United States Air Force issued the Astronaut Badge in three degrees,
Basic, Senior and Master. Note: Is missing one of two backing
pins.
Personal items such as these are seldom
available for private ownership and as a set are virtually never seen.
These items will undoubtedly make an outstanding addition to any serious
space memorabilia collection. Includes COA hand signed by Al
Worden.

When it comes to coins and medallions
that have been flown to the Moon, Robbins Medallions are considered
the most desirable of all. This particular example comes from
Al Worden's personal collection. This sterling sliver
medallion has been encased within a beautiful lucite cylinder for
ease of display. This is #038 of 127 medallions that were
documented to have been flown by the Apollo 15 crew. The
medallion was struck from silver recovered from a Spanish treasure
ship that sank off the coast near Cape Canaveral. This is Al's
one and only flown Robbins Medallion and comes with his hand signed
letter of authenticity.

In November, 1969, this emergency
wrench was flown to the lunar surface as a part of the tool kit
onboard the Lunar Module Intrepid . Fortunately it did not become
necessary to use it!! Following it's return from the Moon, it
was mounted on the plaque shown here and presented to backup CMP, Al
Worden by the Apollo 12 flight crew in appreciation of his
contribution toward the success of that mission.
The plaque reads:
Presented to
Maj. Alfred Worden, USAF
By the Crew of Apollo XII
A key to your own CSM, checked out
aboard Intrepid, November 1969, on its voyage to the Ocean of
Storms, Moon
The stamped NASA part number on this
emergency wrench corresponds to the part number shown in the
official Apollo 12 lunar module stowage list. In addition this
substantial lunar artifact comes with a letter of authenticity
attesting to it's history, hand signed by Al Worden.
