A P O L L O   16  (Young, Mattingly & Duke)

The Apollo program was designed to land humans on the Moon and bring them safely back to Earth. Six of the missions (Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17) achieved this goal. Apollos 7 and 9 were Earth orbiting missions to test the Command and Lunar Modules, and did not return lunar data. Apollos 8 and 10 tested various components while orbiting the Moon, and returned photography of the lunar surface. Apollo 13 did not land on the Moon due to a malfunction, but also returned photographs. The six missions that landed on the Moon returned a wealth of scientific data and almost 400 kilograms of lunar samples. Experiments included soil mechanics, meteoroids, seismic, heat flow, lunar ranging, magnetic fields, and solar wind experiments.

Apollo 16 John Young signed
This 11" x 14" image of John Young's leaping lunar salute is mounted on a 16" x 20" mat.  It originates from the personal collection of Frank Brandstetter who was a close friend of many of the Mercury - Apollo Astronauts and maintained a museum in his Acapulco Hotel, "Las Brisas".  Young inscribes, "To Brandy, with a salute from Decartes Base Moon and every wish for the best for you....Warmest Regards, John Young"

This is an amazing inscription to a close friend unlike most you will see signed by John Young.  Execptional and expecially desirable since Young no longer signs.

This 11" x 14" image is Guerrero, Mexico taken from space was given as a gift to friend of personal friend and friend to the space program, Frank Brandstetter.  "Brandy" as he was called, had an amazing history in his own rite and suggest you Google him for the detail.  His resort in Guerrero, Acapulco Mexico was called Las Brisas and became the preferred R&R location for many of NASA's pioneer astronauts at Brandy's invitation.  They were never charged a dime and in gratitude would often bring him gifts which found their way into his personal museum that was maintained at the resort.  This signed image is one of those gifts, this from John Young.

Young inscribes, "To Brandy: Casa De La Tranquilidad and many other places in Guerrero.  What a view!  All the best.  Have a great 80th and many more"  John Young...3/27/92"

This is an amazing inscription to a close friend unlike most you will see signed by John Young.  Execptional and expecially desirable since Young no longer signs.

This one is unique.  We call it the John Young "reverse" jumping salute.  This image shows Charles Duke (facing camera) taking the famous photograph of John Young (back toward camera) in the midst of his "jumping lunar salute".

This image was captured from a television monitor.  Making this even more exceptional is that Charlie signs and adds his lengthy but well known quote as actually spoken to J.Y. at the moment this image was being taken.  Awesome!!
