NEW  Alan Shepard's Training Gloves for the First Manned Gemini Flight (Gemini 3)  NEW

Before he was grounded due to an inner ear condition known as Meniere’s disease, Alan Shepard has been selected to command the first Gemini flight  - GT-3.  These are Shepard’s gloves to the G2-C space suit that had already been fitted to him for the flight.  The white label white inside each glove reads:  Glove, Space Suit: NASA Designation GG-2C-10, David Clark Co., Part number ACS 1003, Serial number 110, size Shepard.  Gemini gloves in general are almost never available.   Note some age deterioration and signs of hard training, otherwise excellent condition overall.  These gloves are a museum piece and worthy of any serious space artifact collection.

GT3 Fliteline FLOWN medallion

This GT3 FLOWN (rarely seen gold plated over sterling silver variety) Flightline Medallion comes from the personal archives of a former Mercury era NASA employee to whom it was given Gus Grissom himself.   As seen in the scan, the reverse is dated with that mission's date of March 23, 1965.  It will be accompanied by a hand written LOA from it's owner attesting this, as well as documentation that shows her as having actually been employed by NASA. This medallion does NOT come with it's original presentation box.

An interesting and seldom seen novelty item produced by Kapp Records.  It's owner was a fan of the space program as well as a collector.  This amusing record label might have been used, had "Molly Brown" actually been produced (though it wasn't!).  As you can see, it was a "NASA Production" and starred Gus Grissom and John Young !!  I'm not sure how many of these were produced but given how how I've never before seen on, assume that very few have survived.  I have only two available.

GT5 FLOWN Visual Acuity Experiment - Test Cards AND Vintage NASA Visual Acuity Experiment Manual

Cooper Flown Test Card

Conrad Flown Test Card

NASA Visual Acuity Experiment Manual

The two sided display offered here contains the actual GT-5 FLOWN "Test Cards" used by Gordon Cooper and as a part of their In - Flight Visual Acuity Experiment.  This experiment is well documented and was conducted on both the flights of Gemini 5 AND Gemini 7.

To summarize this experiment, sightings of small objects on the ground by Mercury astronauts initiated a controlled visual acuity experiment.  The first objective was to measure the visual acuity of crewmembers before, during and after long duration space flights to determine the effects of a prolonged spacecraft environment. The second objective was to test the use of basic visual acuity data, combined with measured optical properties, of ground objects and their natural lighting, as well as the atmosphere and spacecraft window, to predict the crew’s naked-eye visual capability to identify objects on the earth’s surface in daylight.

Additional information on this experiment may be found by clicking here:  Gemini 5 & 7 Visual Acuity Experiment

These FLOWN "Test Cards" are mounted between sheets of lucite that are held together by small set screws.  Each card is hand annotated and contains the astronaut's name.  The display is in outstanding condition.  The cards themselves measure 1.5" x 2.5".  The display stands 5" high x 4.75" long.

"Definitive Experiment Plan for Gemini In-Flight Visual Acuity
Experiment S-8, D-13 to be carried out on Gemini Missions GT-5 and GT-7"
NASA, CSD-G-245, 151pgs, 6/3/1965

This vintage NASA manual fully details the Gemini 5 and 7 In - Flight Visual Acuity Experiment.  It is loaded with text, charts, and illustrations.  It makes the perfect companion to the Flown Test Cards also being offered here.  Making this even more desirable is that it has been hand signed in ballpoint on it's cover by Charles Conrad who adds mission information.  In outstanding condition and RARE.

Offered here is a substantial 1" x 2" FLOWN Gemini 9 heat shield plug displayed in an ever so rare and highly sought after Lucite Capsule. The capsule itself measures approx. 5.25".  On it's base is engraved "Heat Shield of Gemini #9 - A Test Pilot's Flight - Tom Stafford & Gene Cernan - 6/3 Thru 6/6 1966".  This beautifully presented artifact comes from the personal collection of it's original owner, Colonel Frank Brandstetter.  Brandstetter is a man of many accomplishments and as such, was highly respected and admired by his many well known personal friends that included our own astronaut heroes.  His 1999 biography, "Brandy, Our Man In Acapulco" by Rodney Carlisle & Dominic Monetta (UNT Press, Texas, 1999) tells his amazing story and details his exceptionally strong connection to America's manned space program and many of it's astronauts and other key players.  Included above (with permission) is a view of that book's rear dust jacket with a portion of the "Forward" by Astronaut James Lovell, contained therein.

The FLOWN heat shield plug in it's display was presented to Colonel Brandstetter by the Gemini 9 crew and from that time until being offered for sale through Farthest Reaches, has been maintained in his personal collection of space memorabilia.  This medallion was proudly displayed for many years in Brandstetter's Space Museum at Casa de la Tranquilidad, Mexico.

Following his retirement, President Lyndon Johnson, while visiting Brandy's Acapulco home, toured his amazing space museum and was quoted as saying (laughingly), "Damn you, Colonel, you've got more of this stuff than I do, and I'm the one who signed the appropriation bills for the space program!".  He asked that a photo be taken to commemorate his visit and it is included above.  This anecdote, along with a more detailed accounting of Brandstetter's space program connection is covered in his biography.

This FLOWN artifact comes with outstanding provenance.  It will be accompanied by a letter detailing it's history of ownership, hand signed by Colonel Brandstetter himself on his personal stationary.  Also included will be a copy of his biography, "Brandy, Our Man in Acapulco" that in addition to being fascinating reading, lends additional provenance to this FLOWN piece of space program history.  Farthest Reaches Inc. invites you to look for other unique items from the "Brandstetter Collection" in the days and weeks to come.

Offered here is a gold plated FLOWN Gemini 9 Fliteline Medallion.  The impressive gold medallion comes from the personal collection of it's original owner, Colonel Frank Brandstetter.  Fliteline medallions were unnumbered.

The FLOWN medallion was presented to Colonel Brandstetter by the Gemini 9 crew and from that time until being offered for sale through Farthest Reaches, has been maintained in his personal collection of space memorabilia.  This medallion was proudly displayed for many years in Brandstetter's Space Museum at Casa de la Tranquilidad, Mexico.  Please note some minor tape residue on reverse from it's museum identification tag, that can be removed at buyers discretion.

In the last year or so, as more collectors have discovered Robbins Medallions, the market prices of these FLOWN gems have risen dramatically. They are highly sought after by serious collectors seeking unquestionably authentic, flown artifacts. To that end, this FLOWN artifact comes with outstanding provenance.

Faithful Reproduction of Richard Gordon's flown Gemini XI Flight Plan

by Artist Linda Gordon

sample pages

Offered here is a faithful reproduction of the actual flown Gemini 11 Flight Plan used by that mission's Pilot, Richard Gordon.  This replica is a result of Gordon family's desire to make available to Gordon family members and a very limited number of collectors, copies of some of Dick's original flown artifacts.

This Flight Plan has been faithfully replicated including the paper stock, graphics, binder rings and even the velcro strips on it's back resulting in a look and feel that makes it virtually indistinguishable from the original.  Of course, some minor differences exist, given the changes in technology and printing techniques since the originals were produced by NASA, dating back as early as the 1960's.  Affixed to the inside front and rear of the Flight Plan cover is a crew photo (inside front) and launch photo (inside rear).  Much of the work on the original checklists was done by hand and similarly, much hand work have gone into the production of this limited edition of 50.

Many of the pages contain annotations, most of them technical, but some lighthearted entries that call to mind that fact that is was human beings who were performing extraordinary technical maneuvers, yet having the time of their lives, as good friends should.

Also of great importance is that the artist behind this reproduction is Linda Gordon (Dick's wife) who is an accomplished artist.  This checklist comes with a beautifully produced COA hand signed by Linda.  In addition, this front of this checklist has been hand signed by Richard Gordon who inscribes, "Replica of the original flight plan flown on Gemini XI, 9/12 - 15/66...Richard Gordon"

This particular checklist is the Artist's Proof #1.  It measures 8.5" x 11" and is approximately 45 pages.

Complete set of Gemini flown Flightline Medallions
from the personal collection of Project Gemini Program Manager, Charles W. Matthews

Offered here is an exceedingly rare set of 10 Gemini medallions originally presented BY the astronauts to NASA Project Gemini Program Director, Chuck W. Matthews.  Only 24 sets like this one exist and other than from the personal collections of early astronauts, few ever surface to become available.  This particular set is encased in Lucite (7"x3") and mounted on a wooden base (8.5"x 3") with two aluminum plaques reading:

"These commemorative Medallions Were Flown On Each Of Their Respective Flights"
AND
"Presented to Charles W. Matthews By the Gemini Astronauts"

I suggest that it just doesn't get any better than this, folks.  Why collect these medallions individually when you may own them is a this far more unique state and all for less than the cost of 2-3 flown Apollo Robbins Medallions.  Each of these pristine medallions were flown onboard a Gemini spacecraft and relative to the Robbins Medallions, these lucite sets are far more difficult come by.  This is wonderful investment quality museum artifact.  This Lucite presentation will come with a letter from the daughter of Charles W. Matthews attesting to it's iron clad history and chain of ownership.  Simply outstanding and unquestionably the quintessential flown presentation from the Project Gemini era.
