GT5 FLOWN Visual Acuity Experiment - Test
Cards AND Vintage NASA Visual Acuity Experiment Manual
hand signed by Charles Conrad
The two sided display offered here contains the actual GT-5 FLOWN "Test Cards" used by Gordon Cooper and as a part of their In - Flight Visual Acuity Experiment. This experiment is well documented and was conducted on both the flights of Gemini 5 AND Gemini 7. To summarize this experiment, sightings of small objects on the ground by Mercury astronauts initiated a controlled visual acuity experiment. The first objective was to measure the visual acuity of crewmembers before, during and after long duration space flights to determine the effects of a prolonged spacecraft environment. The second objective was to test the use of basic visual acuity data, combined with measured optical properties, of ground objects and their natural lighting, as well as the atmosphere and spacecraft window, to predict the crew’s naked-eye visual capability to identify objects on the earth’s surface in daylight. Additional information on this experiment may be found by clicking here: Gemini 5 & 7 Visual Acuity Experiment These FLOWN "Test Cards" are mounted between sheets of lucite that are held together by small set screws. Each card is hand annotated and contains the astronaut's name. The display is in outstanding condition. The cards themselves measure 1.5" x 2.5". The display stands 5" high x 4.75" long. AND
"Definitive Experiment Plan for Gemini In-Flight Visual Acuity This vintage NASA manual fully details the Gemini 5 and 7 In - Flight Visual Acuity Experiment. It is loaded with text, charts, and illustrations. It makes the perfect companion to the Flown Test Cards also being offered here. Making this even more desirable is that it has been hand signed in ballpoint on it's cover by Charles Conrad who adds mission information. In outstanding condition and RARE. |

Offered here is a faithful reproduction of the actual flown Gemini 11 Flight Plan used by that mission's Pilot, Richard Gordon. This replica is a result of Gordon family's desire to make available to Gordon family members and a very limited number of collectors, copies of some of Dick's original flown artifacts. This Flight Plan has been faithfully replicated including the paper stock, graphics, binder rings and even the velcro strips on it's back resulting in a look and feel that makes it virtually indistinguishable from the original. Of course, some minor differences exist, given the changes in technology and printing techniques since the originals were produced by NASA, dating back as early as the 1960's. Affixed to the inside front and rear of the Flight Plan cover is a crew photo (inside front) and launch photo (inside rear). Much of the work on the original checklists was done by hand and similarly, much hand work have gone into the production of this limited edition of 50. Many of the pages contain annotations, most of them technical, but some lighthearted entries that call to mind that fact that is was human beings who were performing extraordinary technical maneuvers, yet having the time of their lives, as good friends should. Also of great importance is that the artist behind this reproduction is Linda Gordon (Dick's wife) who is an accomplished artist. This checklist comes with a beautifully produced COA hand signed by Linda. In addition, this front of this checklist has been hand signed by Richard Gordon who inscribes, "Replica of the original flight plan flown on Gemini XI, 9/12 - 15/66...Richard Gordon" This particular checklist is the Artist's Proof #1. It measures 8.5" x 11" and is approximately 45 pages.

This GT12 FLOWN (sterling) Flightline Medallion originally came from the personal collection of Astronaut Buzz Aldrin. It was obtained through auction by it's current owner who subsequently asked Farthest Reaches to handle it's resale. Flightline Medallions are widely considered the most desirable medallions associated with the Mercury/Gemini Missions and making this one even more so, is its having originated from the personal collection of an Astronaut. Buyer will receive a copy of the auction house listing indicating it's provenance. |
